KEVIN'S KIDNEYS START TO FAIL IN 2000

In January 2000 with many tests, it was determined that Kevin's kidneys were starting to fail.  With additional confirmation tests and the expertise of Kaiser renal doctor, Dr. Alex Kay, Kevin was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) caused by Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).  Kevin's PKD is hereditary and Kevin's mother, Ethel, had it and had to do dialysis as a transplant was not an option at that time in her life before she passed away.  Fortunately, Kevin has not had to do dialysis prior to his transplant in November 2007.

KEVIN LISTED ON NATIONAL KIDNEY REGISTRY OCTOBER 2006

On October 7, 2005, Kevin was listed on the National Kidney Registry by the University of California, San Diego Medical Center (UCSD) after Kevin's Kaiser doctor, Dr. Kay, put together a detailed package with his medical history for submittal to UCSD (Kaiser's kidney transplant and research center of choice).   The detailed package included his opinion and numerous Kaiser test results determining that Kevin was in "end stage" renal failure (but still not requiring dialysis) and we should start locating a kidney for Kevin soon.

DONOR KIDNEY FOUND IN 2006

After Kevin was listed on the National Kidney Registry by UCSD, we started a campaign to get the word out that Kevin was in the need of a donor kidney sometime soon.  As many friends, family and business associates were informed of the news, several asked how they could donate one of their own kidneys to Kevin.  It came down to a couple of individuals that had Type O blood,  wanted to start the process to see if they matched Kevin's requirements and then inquired with UCSD about the comprehensive process.

And the first individual that completed all the tests, a long-time friend David Beat, has been determined a -- best match  -- candidate for Kevin.  We can't begin to -- THANK -- David Beat for his unselfish donation of an organ and time to help another individual receive a 'better quality of life' in the years to come.

SUCCESSFUL TRANSPLANT - NOVEMBER 7, 2007

Kevin received his new kidney at University of California San Diego Medical Center (UCSD) November 7, 2007.  All went well during the surgery to remove a healthy kidney from donor, David Beat, and the secondary surgery to hook up the new kidney in Kevin with the kidney starting to work for Kevin immediately.
